Abandoned/Junk Vehicles

Abandoned/Junk Vehicle

What can I do about abandoned or junked vehicles?

On your property:
Contact any authorized tow company and request they impound the junked or abandoned vehicle from your property. Check with them for any fees associated with this service. If the vehicle is not in your name, you may contact the Chehalis Police Department for a junk vehicle affidavit. An inspection will determine if the vehicle meets the criteria.

On City right-of-way:
Notify the Chehalis Police Department giving the location of the vehicle, its make, model, color and license plate number. If the vehicle is found to be in violation, a 24-Hour Notice to Remove will be placed on the vehicle. The owner then has the opportunity to correct the violation. Our goal is to achieve voluntary compliance, but vehicles remaining in violation after being warned can be impounded by City code.

For any vehicle to be parked on a city street and/or right-of-way it must be operable, licensed and not leaking fluids. (CMC 7.04.130 (q) (s))

Warnings are also placed on campers, motor homes, travel trailers, and boat trailers which are prohibited from parking on the street except while in the process of loading or unloading supplies, or in the process of cleaning. (CMC 10.08.020)
