In 1901, Eliza Barrett owned the property that the PUD building is on today. The original industrial structure was built in 1925. In 1932, during The Depression, it was repossessed. It was not until 1941 that the building was purchased by the PUD. In 1943, when America found itself heavily involved in World War II many Chehalis and Lewis County residents had the chance to make a very special contribution to the war effort by building airplane parts. The Boeing Aircraft Company set up shop in this building, hiring close to 600 workers, including Rosie the Riveters, to help build the leading edges of the wing section of B17 bomber planes. The building was remodeled in the late 1960s and more recently in 2012 to resemble its original façade.
